Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag

 Hello Interwebs!

I have done no blogging all of June but I have been reading some good books recently and thought I'd ease back into blogging with the always popular Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag. If nothing else it is a lot of fun to be able to just look back on what I've read so far this year (as of 6/22/2022) and what I still have to look forward to.

• Best Book You've Read So Far in 2022?
• Fiction: What Moves the Dead by T Kingfisher. I received this as an ARC from Tor through a Goodreads giveaway and devoured it before sharing it with several coworkers. I also preordered a finished copy pretty much as soon as I finished it. 
  
  
  
• Nonfiction: Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner: this was a book club pick for Literati and I was surprised by how much I loved it. The author reads the audiobook and it was just perfection. 
  
  
  
• Best Sequel You've Read So Far in 2022?
• Any Way the Wind Blows by Rainbow Rowell (Simon Snow #3) 
  
  
  
• New Release You Haven't Read Yet, But Want To?
• The Night Shift by Alex Finlay 
  
  
  
• The Children on the Hill by Jennifer McMahon
  
  
  
• The Fervor by Alma Katsu
  
  
  
• Most Anticipated Release For the Second Half of 2022?
• Don't Fear the Reaper by Stephen Graham Jones (Indian Lake #2): this is the sequel to My Heart is a Chainsaw which is my favorite horror novel of all time and my favorite book of last year. 
  
  
  
• Biggest Disappointment?
• Such a Pretty Smile by Kristi DeMeester: I had such high hopes for this and the feminist horror and I just...didn't like it. It was simultaneous too slow and too fast and the plot fell apart all the time. 
  
  
  
• Biggest Surprise?
• Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes: this is a sci-fi horror and one that sounded amazing isolationist horror and Titanic vibes but in space. I'm very, very not into sci-fi so I approached it with a lot of apprehension but I absolutely loved it (although I'd argue that it's less Titanic vibes and more The Poseidon Adventure) 
  
  
  
• New Favorite Author?
• T Kingfisher: What Moves the Dead is the first book I've read by her despite having The Hollow Places on my shelf for ages and I am looking forward to reading her backlist.
• Newest Fictional Crush
• Adam Carlson from The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood: I loved this book and I love him as a grumpy love interest. So, so, so good. 
  
  
  
• Newest Favorite Character?
• Delilah Green from Delilah Green Doesn't Care by Ashley Herring Blake: Delilah Green is my lesbian spirit animal and I loved her and want her to be my snarky artsy best friend. 
  
  
  
• Book That Make You Cry?
• Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner: I listened to the audio book version of this on a trip to my parents' house and finished it like two miles from home. I cried through a section of the second half of the book and it was amazing and beautiful. 
  
  
  
• Book That Made You Happy?
• Heartstopper series by Alice Oseman: I picked up the first volume of this on a whim and immediately adored it. So I scoured the internet for copies of the 2nd and 3rd volumes and I have the 4th coming in the mail this week. This is about two high school boys falling in love and it's a graphic novel with the absolute cutest art style. Seriously, these books give me all the warm fuzzies
  
  
  
• Favorite Book to Movie Adaptation You've Seen So Far This Year?
• Bridgerton Season 2 (The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn): this was not a perfect adaptation of the book but I love Anthony and Kate and their enemies to lovers story. Seriously one of my favorites. 
  
  
  
• Most Beautiful Book You Bought This Year?
• Book of Night by Holly Black: I love Holly Black she's one of two autobuy fantasy authors and I preordered the special edition of this from OwlCrate and this is absolutely gorgeous. • What Books Do You Really Need to Read By the End of this Year?
• The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers: I picked this up at the library on a whim and I am so excited to read it. It gives me some Firefly vibes.
  
  
  
• It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey: this has been on my list for ages now but I am definitely going to read this this summer. 
  
  
  
• Clown in a Cornfield by Adam Cesare: this book is on my TBR for Summerween next month so I am hoping I will absolutely adore this. 
  
  
  

So that's it, the overview for the first half of 2022. So far it's been a great six months of reading and I'm looking forward to the rest of the year and everything else I am planning on reading this year.
