Hello Interwebs!
Once again, things were begun in 2022 with the best of intentions and then completely died in a dumpster fire. 2022 started strong with a new job which I am still loving completely. Then Covid happened and my workplace was hit very, very hard. Everyone got it...patients, staff, everyone. Including me. Which in case we're not following along at home means that now I've had...in order: vaccine one (Dec. 2020); Covid take 1 (January 2021); vaccine 2 (May 2021); vaccine 3 (May 2021); and now Covid take 2 (January 2022). I spent a day and a half at home sleeping (in addition to my two normal days off) and then I was busy working and sleeping my life away because that's all I had energy to do. So no posts got made, no work got done, nothing but work, home, sleep, and eat. But I'm feeling much better now (my kid is currently the sicky but it's just a fever and the normal kiddo congestion which seems ubiquitous with toddlers, especially toddlers in daycare. So now I'm back to normal activities which includes a total redo of my bookshelves in my bedroom due to a set of new shelves I got for Christmas from my partner (we'll do a bookshelf tour of some kind soon).
But today's blog is one I've seen a lot of recently and it's a personal list of 22 books I want to read in 2022. Honestly, there aren't any new releases on this list (I think I'll do the 22 books I'm most excited about in 2022 soon though) but rather these are 22 books I want to read this year. There's books I've been meaning to read for years and series I want to complete and just ones I'm excited to finally get to this year so without further ado, my 22 books I want to read this year (in no particular order of course).
1. Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley: a young adult Native based mystery and one I really do need to pick up finally.
2. Carrie by Stephen King: this was Stephen King's very first published novel and one I've never read despite owning both a paperback copy of it and a kindle version of it.
3. Pet Sematary by Stephen King: also quintessential King and also one I've never managed to read. I think 2022 is the time to finally get into it.
4. The Ring Trilogy by Koji Suzuki: The Ring is my favorite horror movie and I loved the first book in this trilogy as well (Ring). I've owned Spiral and Loop for quite some time and it's time to finish off this trilogy.
5. A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J Maas: the most recent ACOTAR book and one that is centered around Cassian and Nesta. I started this and got aobut a third of the way through it before I realized I was having a hard time with fantasy last year so I mean to finish this book this year.
6. One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez: a classic by one of my favorite writers and one I really need to finally get around to reading.
7. All of Us Villains by Amanda Foody and Christine Lynn Herman: this is a 2021 new release that I was really excited about and then couldn't seem to find time at the end of the year to pick up off my shelves.
8. Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse: an adult fantasy that everyone has been raving about since it came out. It's also supposed to be native based so we'll see how that goes.
9. Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor: this was on my 2021 list and I managed not to read it all year so we'll see how 2022 fares for me.
10. The Illuminae Files by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff: I read the first book in this trilogy and loved it and the unique style and now I need to finish the series in 2022.
11. Feasting Wild by Gina Rae La Cerva: in 2021 I found a love for food nonfiction and I hope to get to this book soon, one that was a 2021 Literati book club pick.
12. The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende: another classic that's been on my shelf for ages and that I need to jump into finally.
13. Fuzz by Mary Roach: a nature nonfiction about law and nature and one that sounds like I am really going to love it so we'll try this one this year too.
14. The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King: my favorite fantasy series of all time. I got myself a full set of these and need to reread the series since I haven't in a long time.
15. Mongrels by Stephen Graham Jones: a novel by my favorite horror author, one I haven't read but seems liek there's a lot of talk about it as one of his backlisted titles.
16. Red Rising by Pierce Brown: an adult sci-fi and one that many, many people adore. Just hte thing to get me into a sci-fi kick?
17. Cunning Folk by Adam Nevill: I've started getting really into folk horror as a subgenre and I keep hearing that this is the perfect folk horror to read for people into such things.
18. Yours Cruelly, Elvira by Cassandra Peterson: a memoir by the Mistress of the Dark herself and one I wanted to read in 2021 before I hit a major reading slump in November.
19. My Lovely Wife by Samantha Downing: this is a thriller that is super hyped and super loved by the community so I'm going to finally read it for myself.
20. The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon: an adult fantasy and a complete chonker that I'm hoping to finally read to give adult fantasy a real go of things.
21. The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix: I still have not read anything by Grady Hendrix and considering the hype and love for this book I'm going to start here.
22. House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas: the first book in her new urban fantasy series that I got on release date and never read, when the new book is coming out soon. I'll need to get to this one sooner rather than later.
And those are 22 books I'm really hoping to get to in 2022. Watch out for another blog post about the 22 books I'm most excited about as new releases in 2022.
